Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's ODI Lineup to Face Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from the three-match ODI series facing India, as high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a unexpected call-up.

Recent Form Result in Omission

The right-hander was left out from the ODI side after being dismissed for one in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a highest score of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now work towards a Test recall in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Team Changes

There have been indications of a improvement in form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a Test return as Australia seek a fix to their top-order woes.

Pace Returns and Injury Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the build-up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he aims to recover from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Schedule

Australia have named a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test matches ahead.”
