Helicopter Twirls Out of Control into Palm Fronds at Popular Southern California Coast

An aircraft flying over a popular coastal shoreline unexpectedly began spiraling out of control, ultimately losing altitude and plunging into a cluster of palm trees as onlookers watched.

Videos shared on social media depict the aircraft starting to spin over Huntington Beach then falling towards the perimeter of the shore, where it ends up lodged between palm groves and a staircase adjacent to the coastal road.

First Aid Update

The Huntington Beach fire department said five persons were rushed to the hospital including two who were in the helicopter and were “rescued from the debris” subsequent to the incident on Saturday.

Three persons on the road were harmed. Information on their injuries were not immediately available.

The reason for the accident was not yet disclosed.

The department indicated the chopper was linked to an annual “Cars N Copters” fundraising event scheduled for Sunday.
